Why Choose This Course

AZ-305 Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions is an instructor-led course for professionals who design cloud and hybrid architectures on Microsoft Azure. The training focuses on translating business requirements into secure, resilient, and cost-conscious designs aligned to the Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework. You will learn to design identity and governance, monitoring and observability, storage and data integration, business continuity, and infrastructure solutions across compute and networking—exam-aligned content to help you prepare for the AZ-305 certification while building practical design capability.

Across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, and Perth, organisations expect solution architects to justify trade-offs between reliability, performance efficiency, security, operational excellence, and cost. This course helps you learn to make those decisions confidently: designing platform foundations with management groups, subscriptions, and Azure Policy; planning hybrid connectivity with VPN or ExpressRoute; selecting storage patterns for relational and non‑relational workloads; and defining backup and disaster recovery strategies using Azure platform services and high‑availability constructs. The emphasis is on architecture decision‑making and stakeholder communication rather than day‑to‑day configuration.

You will work through case studies and design activities to produce architecture artefacts, document assumptions, and outline review processes that stand up to governance and compliance expectations. The course offers exam‑aligned content, hands‑on design practice, and guidance on preparing for certification without making absolute promises. A certificate of course attendance is included.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course. Recommended experience includes:

  • Prior deployment or administration of Azure resources.
  • Conceptual knowledge of Azure compute services such as virtual machines, containers, and serverless functions.
  • Understanding of Azure virtual networking, name resolution, and load balancing.
  • Familiarity with Azure storage services for structured and unstructured data.
  • General application design concepts such as messaging, high availability, and resilience.

Exam

  • Candidates can achieve this certification by passing the following exam(s).
Exam AZ-305: Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions.

Books

  • AZ-305 course material included.

Skills Gained

  • Design identity, authentication, and authorisation solutions with Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, managed identities, and Key Vault.
  • Recommend platform governance using management groups, subscriptions, resource organisation, tagging, and Azure Policy.
  • Design monitoring and observability solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, metrics, alerts, and diagnostic settings.
  • Plan and design data storage solutions for relational and non-relational workloads, including backup, retention, and lifecycle.
  • Design business continuity with Recovery Services vaults, backup policies, site recovery, and failover strategies.
  • Architect compute solutions using VMs, scale sets, containers, AKS administration considerations, and App Service.
  • Design secure virtual networks, private endpoints, peering, routing, DNS, load balancing, and application delivery.
  • Translate business and compliance requirements into Azure designs aligned to Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework.
  • Create migration approaches and sequencing for workloads moving to Azure.
  • Document designs and justify trade-offs across reliability, performance, security, operations, and cost.

Audience

  • This course is intended for Azure solution architects and senior cloud practitioners who advise stakeholders and design end-to-end Azure solutions, collaborating with administrators, developers, security engineers, and data engineers to ensure designs meet business and technical objectives.

Outline

  • Role of the Azure solution architect; decision-making across Well-Architected pillars
  • Management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, naming and tagging
  • Azure Policy design: definitions, initiatives, exemptions, and compliance states
  • Microsoft Entra design: tenants, users, groups, access reviews, workload identities
  • Authentication and authorisation patterns; Conditional Access and least privilege
  • Monitoring architecture: metrics vs logs, diagnostic settings, workspaces, alerts and action groups
  • Observability patterns for distributed workloads and hybrid environments
  • Storage strategy for non-relational data: Blob, Data Lake Storage, lifecycle management, soft delete
  • Storage strategy for relational data: Azure SQL options, compute tiers, availability and recovery
  • Data integration and movement choices; migration planning for structured and unstructured datasets
  • Business continuity planning: RTO and RPO, backup policy design, site recovery scenarios
  • Compute architecture: VM and VMSS design, images, placement, AKS administration considerations, App Service selection
  • Application architecture patterns: messaging, decoupling, scaling, and resilience approaches
  • Networking design: VNets, subnets, private endpoints, peering, routing, DNS, name resolution
  • Load balancing and application delivery: Load Balancer and Application Gateway design choices
  • Hybrid connectivity: VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute and Virtual WAN

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

How does AZ-305 differ from administrator-level training?
AZ-305 is design-focused. It assesses the ability to architect identity, governance, monitoring, data storage, business continuity, and infrastructure solutions rather than day-to-day configuration tasks.
You can take the AZ-305 exam without holding another certification, but the Azure Solutions Architect Expert credential is awarded only after you also earn Azure Administrator Associate.
The emphasis is on architecture decision-making with design activities and case studies. Prior hands-on experience with Azure services is recommended to get the most value.
